Oh dear, the regulations for this Crypto Asset in Colombia are really giving me a headache. They say it's legal, but the regulation is not in place; they say it's illegal, but there's no clear prohibition. Isn't this just pushing the common people into a tight spot?
Take Juan mentioned in the article as an example. He worked hard to earn some money and wanted to save it, but the bank won't allow any transactions related to Crypto Assets. Isn't this forcing everyone to use cash? Using cash is so unsafe; what if he encounters bad people?
For those merchants who want to receive payments in Crypto Assets, it is even more difficult. Taxes must be paid, but how to keep the accounts? Isn't this just creating trouble for accountants? If the tax bureau comes to audit one day and a pile of accounts cannot be sorted out, it would really be a situation of wanting to cry but having no tears.
I think the Colombian government needs to seriously consider this matter. Either they should simply ban it, or they should properly legislate and regulate it. This half-hearted approach not only confuses the public but also easily breeds gray areas. If the government wants to manage the economy well, they really need to think of a proper solution.
That being said, it is indeed difficult to manage such emerging phenomena. However, I think rather than simply suppressing them, it would be better to study them more and see if they can be used for economic development. After all, technology is advancing rapidly, and those who fall behind will be left behind.
