Questions about money

Why invest in silver?

Money attracts quite a few investors. Precious metal with a long history. Store of value, medium of exchange. Less popular than gold, certainly. People buy it to diversify. For its real value too. In the face of inflation, it seems to be a good refuge. It can be purchased in coins, in bars. Or via ETFs that track its price in the markets.

What causes its price to fluctuate?

A lot of things. Geopolitical tensions. Fears of recession. Silver goes up when things go bad, but not as much as gold, apparently. Without intrinsic yield, it reacts to interest rates. When they go down, silver goes up. The dollar also plays a role. Strong dollar? Low silver. Weak dollar? Silver climbs. There is also investor demand, supply from mines - silver is much more abundant than gold, which is quite curious - and even recycling rates. All of this affects the price.

Impact of industrial demand?

The industry loves money. Electronics, solar panels. Its electrical conductivity is amazing, better than that of copper and gold. More demand? Prices rise. Less demand? It drops. The United States, China, India are playing big. The first two for their industries. India? Jewelry. All influence the price in their own way.

What is the relationship with gold?

Silver follows gold. Almost always. Gold rises, silver follows. Similar refuges. The famous Gold/Silver ratio tells us how many ounces of silver are worth an ounce of gold. High ratio? Silver seems undervalued. Or gold overvalued, who knows. Low ratio? The opposite. It's not an exact science, but it gives clues.
