Rap icon plans to migrate its music catalog to Web3 platform Tune.FM
According to information from Billboard, a renowned hip-hop artist has partnered with Tune.FM, a music streaming platform based on the Hedera blockchain. The rapper will soon begin transferring his compositions and the catalog of Death Row Records to this new service. Tune.FM has its own cryptocurrency, $JAM, and offers a simplified experience to users, requiring no prior knowledge of blockchain. A distinguishing feature of the platform is its artificial intelligence algorithm, which is capable of giving visibility to independent musicians.
Hip-hop legend embraces Web3 streaming
The rap star declared that he no longer uses Spotify and that, from now on, he will adopt the Web3 platform Tune.FM for music streaming. The first track of the artist to debut on the new service will be “Spaceship Party”. In addition to his career as a musician, the rapper acquired in 2022 the iconic West Coast hip-hop label, Death Row Records, which was fundamental in his rise three decades ago. He plans to gradually migrate the catalog of Death Row to Tune.FM in the near future.
Death Row Records was founded in 1991 by The D.O.C., Dr. Dre, Suge Knight, and Dick Griffey. In the 90s, it featured heavyweights like Dr. Dre, Tupac, and the rapper in question, generating up to 150 million dollars annually. However, after Tupac's death and gang conflicts, the label entered bankruptcy proceedings in 2006. After going through different owners, it was acquired by the rapper in 2022. Currently, Death Row Records has 16 artists on its roster.
Tune.FM: technological innovation at the service of artists
Tune.FM is a music streaming platform that uses the Hedera blockchain as its foundation. It has million-dollar investments from various entities, including Global Emerging Markets, LDA Capital, Alpha Token Capital, Block Alpha, Animoca Brands, HBAR Foundation, and GDA Capital.
The goal of Tune.FM is to employ blockchain technology to create a transparent, secure, and equitable environment for artists. The service is easily accessible: users can sign up and start listening to music without needing to understand blockchain. Upon registration, a JAM account is automatically created. Users can utilize the token $JAM from the platform for streaming, sending tips to artists, and accessing exclusive content. Tune.FM claims that its AI algorithm has the potential to boost independent artists. Additionally, musicians have the option to tokenize their copyrights, allowing fans to invest and receive royalties.
