The anonymous creator of Bitcoin (BTC), who went by the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, disappeared 13 years ago. On December 12, 2010, Nakamoto published his last message on the Bitcointalk forum, stating: "There is more work to be done on [denial of service] DoS."
Nakamoto's final message did not hint at his possible departure. In fact, it was technical in nature and referred to the work needed to address denial of service attacks (DoS).
Although Nakamoto published their last message on December 12, 2010, they had already stepped away from the spotlight in April of that same year. However, they left behind a digital currency and a legacy that has grown beyond what is imaginable.
However, the message from December 12, 2010, would not be the last time the creator of Bitcoin (BTC) would be heard from. In 2014, a major controversy arose regarding Nakamoto's identity. Authorities had questioned a certain Dorian Nakamoto. However, a profile on the P2P Foundation linked to the creator of Bitcoin (BTC) appeared and stated: "I am not Dorian Nakamoto."
Why did the creator of Bitcoin disappear?
There are numerous theories about why Nakamoto may have abandoned the cryptographic scene. Some argue that their disappearance helped keep Bitcoin (BTC) decentralized and open. Meanwhile, others claim that "Satoshi Nakamoto" is a group of people that has since dissolved.
Some followers have associated Nakamoto's identity with Hal Finney, a computer scientist who worked on the development of Bitcoin (BTC). Finney was also the recipient of the first BTC transaction. Furthermore, Finney lived in the same neighborhood as Dorian Nakamoto. Therefore, it is not surprising that people accuse Finney of being the true Satoshi Nakamoto. Unfortunately, Finney passed away on August 28, 2014. Finney's passing may be a reason why we have not received a message from Nakamoto.
However, these are just theories, and there is no conclusive evidence about who Satoshi Nakamoto really is.
