The damn dollar sign ($) comes in two versions, and Iâm fed up that no one clarifies it once and for all:
1ď¸âŁ With One Line:
⢠They use it in everything digital and modern because, of course, it is more "minimalist".
⢠It has become the standard everywhere - apps, software... because the simplest always wins, right?
2ď¸âŁ With Two Lines:
⢠This is the original, damn it. It supposedly represents the "U" and "S" overlapped (United States).
⢠You only see it in outdated or formal contexts, almost nobody uses it anymore.
Do you know what? Technically, both are correct, but it annoys me that we are abandoning our history for convenience. The one-line version dominates because we are lazy and prefer the simple.
I personally use the two-line one when I want to seem cultured, and the other one when I'm chatting with my friends about how much I lost in the crypto market yesterday.
And you? Which one do you prefer to use when you cry watching your portfolio plummet?

And no, this is not financial advice, in case some smart aleck thought about suing me later. Although with these current yields, there isn't much to advise anyway...
