"The world's worst unfinished building" turned into a hotel: 3888 yuan per night, surprisingly hard to book a room during National Day.
I never expected that the "unfinished buildings from previous lives" could also become a reason for some people to visit and take photos.
In 2016, the Guizhou Dushan County’s "World’s First Water Silo Building," which had a financial revenue of less than 1 billion yuan but spent nearly 200 million yuan on constructing a landmark, began construction. With a total building area of 60,000 square meters and a height of 99.9 meters, it claims to be a fully wooden mortise and tenon structure that integrates the totems of the Miao and Bouyei ethnic groups, and has applied for three Guinness World Records.
However, in less than a year, the project was completely halted due to the investors' cash flow issues, and the state-owned platform took over without being able to save it, becoming the "world's number one unfinished building." In 2019, it was criticized by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, and the following year, Pan Zhili, the secretary of the Dongshan County Party Committee, was sentenced for bribery and abuse of power.
Now, the unfinished building has been transformed into the "Zilinshan Haolivila Hotel", taken over by Gemay Group (the parent company of GreenTree Inn). It is a hotel that integrates accommodation, dining, conference services, leisure and entertainment, and wellness, with 365 guest rooms.
It is reported that the project was initially taken over by the county-owned platform company Guizhou Xinying Cultural Tourism in 2022, assuming a debt of 200 million, and passing legal inspections such as fire safety. Later, in 2023, it reached a cooperation agreement with Gemei Group in the name of Guizhou Provincial Tourism Industry Development Group, separating ownership, management, and operational rights.
Information from third-party platforms shows that the hotel offers a total of 12 room types, including standard king rooms and business suites. This year, the prices for standard room types during the National Day holiday range from 490 yuan per night to 1240 yuan per night, with twin bed standard rooms already showing sold out from October 1 to October 8.
According to reports from Jimu News citing the hotel's response, the most expensive executive king room at the hotel during the National Day holiday is priced at 3888 yuan per night.
The front desk stated that the current daily occupancy rate of the hotel can reach 60%, with twin-bed rooms being the best sellers. The room booking rate during this year's National Day holiday is also very high, and the occupancy rate may exceed expectations.
The hotel started trial operations at the end of 2024 and officially opened in May this year. This is the hotel's first "National Day holiday".
"The rebirth of the Water Division Building has provided a replicable model for the transformation of idle assets nationwide," said the head of the Culture and Tourism Bureau of Duxian County. The hotel has spurred the emergence of surrounding farm stay businesses and specialty shops, creating over 200 jobs. From "the lesson of unfinished buildings" to "the experience of revitalization," it is hoped that this project can offer ideas and confidence for the revival of more unfinished buildings.
