Launching a coin: my personal experience with virtual generators

Yesterday I was frozen in front of two options and I didn't have a single miserable coin in my pocket. What a world this is where we carry cards but no metal! Thank goodness there is this wonder called virtual coin toss that saved me from an attack of indecision.

Have you ever found yourself needing that "heads or tails" but without coins? I constantly do. And after trying dozens of these digital tools, I can tell you that some are a scam and others a treasure.

Why do I resort to launching virtual coins?

It's my escape for impossible decisions

When I'm stuck between two options, I delegate my responsibility to that digital algorithm. Yes, it's cowardly, but it works. The coin has no emotions or preferences - something that I definitely have.

No one can manipulate the outcome

Unlike when my brother would toss the coin and magically always win, these systems are quite fair ( although I have my suspicions about some of them ).

My favorite tools to decide my destiny

The omnipresent searcher

You write "launch coin" and that's it. Fast and always available. Although I don't like that it's so visually boring.

FlipSim: My personal favorite

It has an animation that almost makes me feel the coin spinning. It's ridiculous how much satisfaction I get from watching that virtual spin.

Heads or Tails

I use this app when I am offline, although sometimes I think it slightly favors faces. I have never been able to prove it, but I have my conspiracy theories.

The false science behind the matter

There is supposed to be a 50/50 chance, but after spending hours flipping virtual monedas (yes, I have free time), I have developed my own theories:

  • Sometimes it seems like algorithms have predictable patterns.
  • After many launches, some systems seem to favor one side
  • And frankly, I wonder if they are really as random as they say.

My particular method for using these tools

Step 1: Choose which to use based on your superstition Do you need it to come out expensive? Choose the app that you think favors that result (all my superstitions without scientific basis).

Step 2: Define the consequences first When you roll a cross and suddenly say "better two out of three", you are cheating. I do it constantly.

Step 3: Accept your destiny The hardest part. If the virtual coin says jump out of the plane, you must jump.

Questions I Constantly Ask Myself

Are they really random? Probably not as much as they say, but good enough to decide what to eat.

Can I manipulate them? I tried timing my clicks thinking it would influence the outcome. Spoiler: it didn't work.

Why do we continue to trust such a primitive method? Because the alternative is to make rational and mature decisions, and who has the energy for that?

Virtual coins have modernized the ancient practice of evading personal responsibilities. It doesn't matter if you're deciding between cryptocurrencies or what movie to watch, these little digital coins remain my preferred method of leaving my fate to chance.

And if we ever find ourselves in a situation where we need to decide something important, you know I will take out my phone and let an algorithm decide for us. It's more fun that way.
