Hacked X Accounts Spark Crypto Chaos - Scammers Hit Celebrity Profiles
On May 26, I watched in horror as scammers hijacked several high-profile X accounts belonging to crypto influencers and celebrities. These digital muggings led to shameless promotions of sketchy meme coins that briefly pumped before the inevitable dump. The whole thing reeks of manipulation, and frankly, I'm disgusted by how easy these accounts were compromised.
GCR's account (with 247,000 followers) was among the victims. The hackers used this influential trader's platform to shill ORDI and Luna 2.0, causing ORDI to jump 6% while Luna 2.0 skyrocketed a ridiculous 274%. Amateur move by the hackers though - they could've made way more by pumping microcaps instead of these relatively established tokens.
Bitcoin developer Udi Wertheimer pointed out something that pisses me off - these attacks strategically happened during a long weekend when platform security staff are typically absent. These hackers aren't stupid - they know exactly when the guards are away!
Caitlyn Jenner's account mysteriously started promoting a Solana-based 'JENNER' coin around the same time. Unlike GCR, Jenner and her manager hosted an X space claiming the promotion was legitimate. I don't buy it for a second - the timing is too convenient. Within eight hours, this worthless token had a $27.1 million market cap. Ridiculous!
American rapper Rich The Kid's account (2.3 million followers) also posted about a meme coin called 'RICH' on Solana. This garbage token quickly reached a $900,000 market cap before the post disappeared. The rapper hasn't confirmed or denied involvement yet, but the deleted post speaks volumes.
These incidents highlight the dangerous vulnerability of social platforms and the reckless gambling mentality in crypto markets. People blindly follow celebrity endorsements without questioning if they're even real. It's crypto manipulation at its worst, and nobody seems to care enough to fix the security issues making it possible.
