The potential of WalletConnect goes far beyond simple transaction signing capabilities. It is expected to create a brand new contribution model within the Open Source community, transforming every code submission, contract audit, and bug fix into verifiable "contribution certificates."
The core of this innovative concept lies in utilizing wallets to sign submission requests (PR) or code submissions (commit). By generating verifiable records through nodes with signatures, timestamps, and code hashes, project parties can directly reward contributors with WCT tokens or make milestone payments. At the same time, contributors' contribution records on the blockchain will become a long-term verifiable career history, beneficial for job seeking and reputation building.
The feasibility of this mechanism is mainly based on three aspects:
First, it can effectively reduce disputes. Who submitted which piece of code and when it was merged will have clear evidence on the blockchain.
Secondly, it can achieve the automation of rewards and salary distribution. The project party does not need to wait for manual verification, and WCT or stablecoins can be automatically released after the node verifies the snapshot.
Finally, it established a trust market for the Open Source economy. Excellent auditors and long-term contributors can obtain a higher market premium through verifiable records.
The session signing and multi-party verification features of WalletConnect can standardize this workflow, while community governance can determine the arbitration rules and reward distribution strategies.
Viewing "coding" as a signable professional asset not only motivates high-quality contributions but also expands the application of WCT to the Open Source labor market. This model, which directly links integrity with settlement, is more effective in activating the workforce of the ecosystem than mere conceptual promotion. It demonstrates an innovative way of combining blockchain technology with actual development work, with the potential to bring profound impacts to the open source community.
