SBF speaks from prison: compares Maduro and former Honduran president, accuses US media of "double standards"
On January 6th, the imprisoned FTX founder SBF posted on social media stating that, compared to Venezuelan President Maduro and former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández (JOH), there is a clear double standard in the US and Western liberal media. SBF said that both are leaders in “drug countries,” but JOH cooperated with the US to combat drug trafficking and peacefully transferred power after his term; whereas Maduro is accused of collaborating with drug cartels, ignoring election results, and heading toward dictatorship. SBF also pointed out that the US arrested and extradited JOH after his term ended, while after Maduro refused to accept the election results, the US chose to arrest him in his country and send him back. He questioned the liberal media’s criticism of “whether it is legal to arrest Maduro in Venezuela,” asking why the media remained silent when the US arrested JOH in Honduras, and accused these media outlets of supporting Maduro and opposing JOH because the former was opposed by Trump, while the latter was pardoned by Trump. SBF concluded that this is not a “rule of law issue,” but a narrative driven by political stance. BlockBeats note: This message was reposted by a friend with access to SBF’s account.
