Abstract generation in progress

A survey conducted by Harris shows that U.S. President Donald Trump is struggling to convince U.S. consumers of the benefits of his trade war. A majority of U.S. adults (56%) say their household finances would be better off if Trump’s tariffs hadn’t been implemented. Some 52 percent of respondents said the benefits promised by imposing tariffs would not be enough to offset the economic costs they paid. This assessment comes after Trump’s “Liberation Day” tariff plan became the largest protectionist action in the United States since the '30s of the 20th century, pushing U.S. tariffs on imported goods to their highest levels in nearly a century. Financial markets have been in turmoil since the tariffs were introduced, and new fears have arisen that the United States could fall into recession.
