Ripple CLO Stuart Alderoty calls on the American Congress to finalize the crypto legal framework
Stuart Alderoty, the Legal Director of Ripple and President of the National Electronic Money Association (NCA), called on the American Congress to quickly finalize the legal framework for crypto, emphasizing that this is not just a matter for the SEC but also a concern for voters.
In the article on RealClearMarkets, he stated that the SEC has for the first time made "clarity on crypto" a top priority, indicating that the time for a consistent oversight framework has arrived.
Citing data from NCA/Harris, Pew, and YouGov, Alderoty points out that about 1/5 of American adults own crypto, users want more protective measures, and the majority support stricter regulations. Chainalysis estimates that Americans traded over $1 trillion in digital assets in 2024.
He warned that a lack of clarity would only cause funds and innovation to flow to other countries, while a transparent legal framework would both protect users and help businesses grow in America.
Ripple has funded 50 million USD for NCA to promote education and raise awareness about crypto. Alderoty sees the fall session of Congress as a key opportunity to demonstrate that Washington can provide the necessary transparency, keep innovation at home, and help America lead the future financial infrastructure.
