Iran, Oman Close Two Strait of Hormuz Shipping Lanes, Establish New Route on August 6

According to PANews citing CCTV News, Iran disclosed on August 6 that it and Oman agreed on August 5 to close the two existing shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz and replace them with a new temporary route through Iranian territorial waters. Iran stated it will establish a new transit model different from the past 60 years, adding the agreement is unrelated to "immediate strait opening" and that reopening depends on the U.S. correcting its "violations."

Meanwhile, the U.S. signaled clarity may come within 48 hours. Current Strait of Hormuz traffic remains significantly below pre-conflict levels, with shipping in a "limited recovery" phase.
