Iran Closes Temporary Strait of Hormuz Shipping Lanes on August 5, Redirects Vessels Through Iranian Waters

According to Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Gariboladi, on August 5, new arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz will close existing temporary shipping lanes, with vessels redirected to transit through Iranian territorial waters. Iran stressed that all matters concerning the strait should be decided solely through coordination between Iran and Oman, rejecting any external involvement. The statement came after the U.S. reportedly sought dialogue four to five days into the recent escalation.
