CME Bitcoin Futures Open Interest Jumps 6.82% on Aug. 5, Max Pain Approaches $80K

According to Coinglass.com data logged on August 5, CME bitcoin futures open interest surged 6.82% in a single day to 102,840 BTC, or $6.66 billion, ranking second only to Binance's $9.61 billion. The three-month annualized basis across major exchanges rebounded to 4.3%, a sharp recovery from 0.3% in late April, signaling improving market confidence as institutional capital rebuilds exposure.

Max pain levels, where the greatest value of options expire worthless, remain elevated across platforms. OKX places September and December max pain near $69,000, while Binance pushes the target to approximately $80,000 around the December 25 expiry, according to Newhedge.io metrics. All major options venues currently point above bitcoin's spot price of $64,711.
