On August 5, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent posted on X that WSJ reporter Nick Timiraos and other journalists covering the Federal Reserve lack independent analytical capability. In his post, Bessent said these reporters operate as "stenographers masquerading as journalists," relying entirely on the Fed's spoon-feeding rather than conducting genuine economic or monetary policy analysis. Timiraos has long been viewed as an informal Fed spokesperson.
