Yen Falls to New Lows; U.S., Japan Signal Possible Intervention Today

According to Jin10 data, on August 5, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent and Bank of Japan officials signaled potential joint intervention if the yen continues to weaken. Former BOJ official Atsushi Takeuchi stated that Japan and the U.S. may intervene again if the yen slides further. Bessent expressed confidence in the BOJ and said the U.S. would take necessary measures to support the yen, citing the importance of yen stability to America and Asia.

Meanwhile, Federal Reserve officials sent mixed policy signals. Bessent indicated the Fed should maintain rates unchanged, while Fed Governor Schmid called for tighter monetary policy to combat inflation. Fed Governor Paulson described current policy as "moderately restrictive" and said the Fed remains open to policy adjustments if inflation fails to progress.
