According to Reuters citing Iranian officials, Iran is seeking to charge vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz a fee equivalent to 5%-7% of cargo value under a proposed agreement with Oman. Oman is negotiating a lower rate of approximately 3%, while the United States is pressing for zero fees. The payment terms may nominally remain voluntary, though shipping companies could face pressure to pay given security threats in the region.
