Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Will Not Reopen Immediately Despite Oman Talks

According to Iran's state television today (August 5), a potential agreement between Iran and Oman on shipping arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz does not mean the waterway will reopen immediately. Iran clarified that negotiations with Oman involve only bilateral coordination on vessel transit and are unrelated to the United States.

Iran stated that even if an agreement with Oman is reached, the strait will remain closed if the U.S. continues what Tehran describes as "violations." Reopening will depend on the U.S. correcting these alleged violations, Iran's officials indicated.
