According to Foresight News, the Ethereum Foundation's Trillion Dollar Security (1TS) program has announced a grant to the Freedom of the Press Foundation (FPF) to support WEBCAT development, an open-source browser tool that verifies website code authenticity. WEBCAT enables users to confirm that code delivered by a website matches the version published by developers, addressing a security gap where HTTPS only validates connection security but cannot guarantee code integrity. The tool uses a distributed verification registry maintained through developer-signed manifest files, with browser plugins periodically downloading and validating snapshots locally. The grant will fund wallet integration libraries for WEBCAT, support for Chromium-based browsers like Chrome, independent security audits, and development of an Ethereum Improvement Proposal (ERC) standard for wallet developers.
