71.9% of Tokens That Reached Crypto's Top 100 Are Operationally Dead, CryptoRank Data Shows

According to CryptoRank data, 71.9% of the 1,539 tokens that ever entered crypto's Top 100 are classified as operationally dead, defined as being delisted from major exchanges with daily volume below $10,000 for over 90 days. The analysis found that 62% of top-100 tokens lose their relevance within five years, with the mortality rate rising to 84.7% after a decade. The median lifespan of a top-100 token was just two years and four months.

A separate CryptoRank analysis tracking the July 2021 Top 100 found only 41 projects retained their ranking, while 46 dropped out and 13 ceased operations entirely. Among the fallen tokens, roughly 65% were Layer-1 and Layer-2 chains previously marketed as Ethereum challengers.
