Circle Internet Group (CRCL) posted second-quarter earnings of $0.18 per share, beating the $0.16 consensus, while revenue of $701.3 million missed estimates by 5.46%. The stock traded near $69.00 in pre-market Wednesday, up about 9%. Traders bought the Arc blockchain timeline and Circle's new banking status rather than the revenue shortfall. The sequential numbers complicate that trade, as revenue barely moved from the March quarter's $694 million and adjusted EBITDA fell from $151 million to $143 million.
Circle Q2 Revenue and EBITDA Decline Sequentially
Annual framing flatters the quarter. Revenue and reserve income reached $701 million, a 7% gain. Three months earlier, that same growth rate was 20%. Compare the quarters directly and the picture darkens. Circle booked $694 million in the March quarter results, so the top line barely moved. Adjusted EBITDA fell outright, from $151 million to $143 million. Earnings per share slipped as well, from $0.21 to $0.18. Zacks Investment Research puts the adjusted year-ago figure at $1.02. That comparison excludes $591 million of listing charges Circle booked in mid-2025. USD Coin (USDC) circulation drives most of this revenue. It closed June at $73.3 billion, up 19% annually but down from $77.0 billion at the March quarter end.
Arc Mainnet Launches September 16 with Institutional Validators
Arc, Circle's own blockchain for stablecoin payments and tokenized assets, opens its public mainnet on September 16. The network anchors Circle's four-layer stack. More than 100 institutional and ecosystem builders are already working on it. Founding validators include BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, DTCC and Intercontinental Exchange. Two of those names are not new converts. BlackRock and ICE both joined Arc's $222 million token presale in May, struck at a $3 billion network valuation. The new businesses stay small for now. Arc processed 502 million transactions in the quarter. Circle Payments Network annualized volume hit $14.7 billion, up from $8.3 billion in March. That is slim against $73.3 billion of circulating USDC. The federal charter is older news too. Circle won final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on July 10. CRCL rose 15% in pre-market that day. New York's regulator added a state trust charter three weeks later.
Wall Street Downgrades and USDC Competition Pressure CRCL
Wall Street turned cautious in July. Mizuho downgraded Circle to underperform, and JPMorgan cut its estimates in the same week. Both flagged USDC economics. Circle filed $407 million of distribution costs last quarter against $653 million of reserve income. Roughly 62 cents of every dollar earned leaves the business. Competition supplies the other pressure. Rival stablecoin Open USD launched in June with more than 140 backers, including Visa and Coinbase. Circle counters that USDC took close to 70% of June stablecoin transaction volume, citing Visa Onchain Analytics. Onchain activity is cooling as well. The $14.8 trillion in quarterly volume trailed the $21.5 trillion Circle logged in March. Circulation sat near $72.1 billion on Wednesday. CRCL is still down 20.2% in 2026 while the S&P 500 has gained 13%. Analysts model $773.7 million of third-quarter revenue, which demands a 10% sequential jump after a quarter of almost none. September 16 is the date that has to deliver it.
