According to Japanese Finance Minister Katayama Shoji, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent believes Japan's fiscal situation is improving, Katayama said on August 4. The remarks followed Washington's assistance in supporting the yen. "Overall, Bessent indicated Japan is moving in the direction of fiscal discipline," Katayama said, citing Bessent's statements during overnight media interviews.
