Proof of Play Shuts Down on Tuesday After Failing to Build Sustainable Blockchain Gaming Model

PIRATE-34.75%

According to an official announcement Tuesday, a16z-backed blockchain game developer Proof of Play will cease operations after failing to prove that decentralized games could support a large-scale internet at scale. The studio will open-source much of its code, artwork, and internal software-development tools, including the Pirate Nation game and smart contracts.

Proof of Play said the independent Pirate Nation Foundation will continue supporting the PIRATE token and keeping the website operational, though Proof of Play points will not be redeemable. The studio's Shiba Story Go! game was acquired by an unnamed third party and will operate independently.
