The Trump administration plans to reform the way employment data is collected.
According to a report by CoinWorld, the Wall Street Journal has revealed that after the abrupt dismissal of the Bureau of Labor Statistics director this month due to poor employment data performance, White House officials have disclosed that the Trump administration is considering changing the way federal employment data is collected and published. According to informed sources, in recent days, White House aides have held a series of closed-door meetings with Labor Department officials to explore solutions such as adopting new technologies to enhance data collection efficiency. A White House assistant stated that increasing the response rate of the Bureau of Labor Statistics survey is one of the goals of the reform. Officials mentioned that Trump has explicitly requested to avoid significant data revisions in the future. White House press secretary Levitt stated on Tuesday that the president is reviewing the “statistical methods and processes” behind the employment data. Reports indicate that if there are changes in the statistical methods used for the non-farm payroll report, released on the first Friday of each month, it may raise suspicions that Trump is manipulating data for political purposes. The president, who often questions data that does not align with his worldview, has recently continued to strengthen his control over traditionally independent operating agencies and purge career bureaucrats who are seen as disloyal.
