Ronin and ROMW have split, harming player interests and challenging the Web3 gaming ecosystem.
The relationship between the Ronin public chain and the ROMW game has broken down, harming player interests.
Recently, the development team of the game “Ragnarok: Monster World” (ROMW) announced the launch of a “multi-chain architecture” service on the CROSS Protocol, triggering strong dissatisfaction within the community. This move is seen as a departure from the Ronin public chain, raising concerns about player rights and the ecological outlook.
Two days after the incident, senior executives of a blockchain gaming company publicly accused the ROMW team of violating the cooperation agreement and announced the termination of the partnership. This series of events has pushed the originally deep cooperation into a crisis of trust, affecting not only the Ronin ecosystem but also casting a shadow over the future of ROMW.
There is a significant discrepancy in the descriptions of the event by both parties. A senior executive accused the ROMW team of ignoring suggestions and secretly signing contracts with other blockchains, which constitutes a serious violation of the agreement. However, the ROMW side denied the existence of any secret agreements, stating that they have fulfilled all contractual obligations and communicated with the other party as early as February of this year.
In this controversy, both parties’ actions and attitudes have left players and the community feeling disappointed. Some community members discovered that a certain executive had criticized ROMW on social media before the incident was made public, calling it “a poor imitation of Clash Royale.” This sudden change in attitude has left players baffled.
As a punitive measure, a certain company decided to delist ROMW-related assets from its products. This decision was questioned by the community and was seen as an expression of excessive centralization. Subsequently, the company stated that it has taken feedback into account and will not completely remove the assets, but will cancel the official recognition label.
The new platform chosen by ROMW, CROSS Protocol, is a dedicated sidechain based on Ethereum. The games running on CROSS by ROMW are completely independent from the Ronin servers, including separate game processes, token economics, and leaderboards. This means there is almost no economic connection between the two versions, leading to accusations of “soft rug” from players.
As a result, the prices of ROMW-related tokens and NFTs have plummeted. Players who invested time and money in the original game are facing significant losses. For ROMW, it will become extremely difficult to rebuild an active player community.
This event not only affected the reputation of the parties involved but also seriously harmed the interests of players, reflecting the problems and challenges existing in the Web3 gaming ecosystem. In the future, how to balance the interests of developers, platforms, and players will be an important issue that the industry needs to continuously explore.
