[CoinPush] Coinbase executive Conor Grogan stated on social media that there is a possibility of the private key being stolen or leaked regarding the “ancient Whale of Bitcoin dormant for 14 years transferring $8 billion worth of BTC” that occurred yesterday. Conor discovered that one hour before the large-scale transfer of BTC assets from the Whale wallet, one of the wallets conducted a test transaction of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and immediately transferred out all BCH. Conor believes this pattern of behavior is unusual, as other BCH wallets were not activated, and BCH is typically less monitored by Whale tracking services, which could indicate a low-profile way to test the private key. He speculates that these wallets are unlikely to be exchange wallets. Conor stated that although this is just speculation, if true, it could be the largest digital asset theft in human history.
