I. What Is the Gate Account Security Protection Plan?

The Gate Account Security Protection Plan (the “Plan”) is an account security protection mechanism operated by the platform. If assets in your Gate account are transferred by another party without your authorization, you may apply for compensation for direct asset losses that meet the Plan rules.

This Plan is not an insurance product and does not constitute an insurance contract or any form of insurance arrangement. It also does not constitute a promise of compensation. Only security incidents that meet the Plan rules may be eligible for compensation. Whether compensation is granted and the amount of compensation are subject to the platform’s final review result.

II. How to Activate the Plan

You can apply to activate this Plan on the Gate Account Security Protection Plan page. Activation is free of charge and does not require payment or purchase.

When activating the Plan, your account must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Have a security score of 80 or above;

  • Complete KYC 2 identity verification;

  • Complete the security verification required by this Plan;

  • Maintain normal account status;

  • Meet the platform’s risk control, regional, and compliance requirements.

III. When Does the Plan Take Effect?

After activation, your account enters the Security Enhancement Period, but Plan protection is not yet active. If your security score remains at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days, your account enters “Protection Active” status. Only incidents that occur while your account is in “Protection Active” status and meet the applicable rules may be eligible for compensation. Consecutive qualifying days accumulate only during the Security Enhancement Period. After the Plan is suspended, if your security score returns to 80 or above within the specified time, you will re-enter the Security Enhancement Period and accumulation will restart from day 0. After the Plan ends, you must activate it again and restart the accumulation period. Eligibility to apply for compensation does not mean compensation is guaranteed. The final decision is subject to the Plan rules and the platform’s review results.

Security Enhancement Period
After activation, you will enter the Security Enhancement Period, during which protection is not yet active. Incidents that occur during this period are not eligible for compensation. If your security score remains at 80 or above for 30 consecutive days, your account will enter “Protection Active” status.

Protection Active
Only incidents that occur in this status and meet the applicable requirements may be eligible for compensation. Please refer to the Plan rules for details.

Plan Suspended
If your security score falls below 80, the Plan will be suspended. Incidents occurring during this period are not eligible for compensation. If your score returns to 80 or above within 48 hours, you will re-enter the 30-day Security Enhancement Period.

Plan Ended
If your security score has not returned to 80 or above after the Plan has been suspended for 48 hours, the Plan will end. After reactivation, you will enter another 30-day Security Enhancement Period.

Changes that weaken security protections (such as disabling security features) will reset the consecutive qualifying-day count to day 0. Changes that strengthen security protections will not affect the accumulated count.

IV. Scope of Coverage

1. Applicable Scenarios

If another party logs in to or gains control of your Gate account without your authorization and transfers assets through on-chain withdrawals, GatePush, or GateCode, causing actual losses, you may apply for compensation in accordance with the Plan rules.

Common applicable scenarios include:

  • Phishing: Another party obtains your account information through a phishing website, link, or spoofed page, then misuses your account to transfer assets. The platform determines that the relevant login environment was abnormal and that the activity clearly differed from your usual usage patterns.

  • Trojans, malware, or malicious remote control: Another party uses malicious software to control your account and transfer assets without your knowledge, and you did not participate in the relevant authorization or confirmation actions.

  • Lost phone, stolen SIM card, or fraudulent SIM replacement: Another party uses these circumstances to access your account without authorization and transfer assets, and the platform can verify a direct connection between the incident and the asset loss.

If you personally initiate, authorize, or confirm a transfer after being scammed, induced, impersonated, or coerced, the incident does not fall within the scope of this Plan.

2. Inapplicable Scenarios

This Plan does not apply to the following circumstances, including but not limited to:

1) Actions initiated or authorized by you

  • Transactions or asset transfers that you initiate, authorize, confirm, or voluntarily participate in;

  • Asset losses resulting from transactions or asset transfers that you initiate, authorize, or confirm after being scammed, induced, impersonated, or coerced, including personally completing verification or confirmation related to an asset transfer during remote-control or screen-sharing sessions, such as entering verification codes or completing facial verification;

  • Asset losses resulting from your voluntary authorization of malicious software to log in to your account by scanning a QR code;

  • Asset transfer losses caused by personal operational errors, such as entering an incorrect address or selecting the wrong blockchain network.

Actions completed through passkeys, facial or fingerprint recognition, trusted-device authentication, or similar methods will generally be deemed authorized or confirmed by you and are generally not covered by this Plan.

2) Losses arising from voluntarily sharing account or device permissions

  • Asset losses resulting from your voluntary provision of your account, password, verification code, fund password, security verification tools, or device permissions to another party, allowing that party to access or operate your account;

  • Asset losses resulting from your voluntary grant of remote-control or device-operation permissions to another party, or your provision of verification information to another party through screen sharing.

If your account information is disclosed through phishing, or your account is controlled by malware without your knowledge, the platform will review the case based on phishing, malware, and similar circumstances, together with whether you participated in the relevant authorization or confirmation actions, to determine whether the compensation requirements are met.

3) Transfers completed through verification-free features

  • Transfers completed through whitelisted addresses, password-free withdrawals, or small-amount verification-free features;

4) Products or services not covered by this Plan

  • Asset transfers from Web3 Wallets or cross-exchange accounts;

  • Withdrawals or transactions initiated through APIs or Agents;

  • Losses arising from Alpha trading;

  • Losses arising from red packets, tips, GatePay spending, gift cards, stock transfers, GateCard, GateConnect, or C2C (P2P) transactions;

  • Corporate, market maker, broker, or over-the-counter accounts, as well as accounts operated on behalf of third parties;

  • Other products, features, or transfer channels identified on the Plan page as not covered by this Plan.

5) Losses arising from transactions or price changes

  • Trading losses resulting from market fluctuations, trading decisions, leverage, contracts, forced liquidation, or similar circumstances;

  • Situations where only trading, conversion, or changes in asset prices occur within the account, and funds are not actually transferred off the platform.

3. Circumstances That Do Not Qualify for Compensation

You will not be eligible for compensation if any of the following circumstances apply:

  • At the time of the incident, the Plan had not yet taken effect, was in the Security Enhancement Period or suspended status, or had already ended;

  • The cause or amount of the loss cannot be verified;

  • The compensation application concerns indirect losses, expected returns, or loss of opportunity;

  • The identity used for the account’s KYC verification does not match the actual user;

  • There is any illegal or non-compliant conduct, fraud, false declaration, abuse of this Plan, or other violation of platform rules related to the incident or compensation application.

V. Eligibility for Compensation

1. To receive compensation, all of the following conditions must be met:

  • At the time of the incident, the affected account was in “Protection Active” status;

  • For the 30 consecutive days before the incident, the security score was not below 80, and key security settings continuously met the Plan requirements;

  • The incident falls within the scope of this Plan and is not an inapplicable scenario;

  • The loss is a verifiable direct asset loss;

  • You submit a compensation application within 45 days after the incident;

  • You report the incident to local law enforcement within 45 days after the incident and provide the platform with a copy of the police report in English;

  • The account’s verified identity information is true and valid, and the verified identity matches the actual user;

  • The account is in normal status and has not been blacklisted;

  • You truthfully provide the required materials and cooperate with the platform’s investigation, asset tracing, and other necessary procedures;

  • You take prompt action to protect your account after discovering abnormal activity and take reasonable measures to prevent further losses.

2. For at least 30 days before the incident, the following security settings must have continuously met the requirements without any changes during that period:

  • Enable Passkey;

  • Link Google Authenticator;

  • Link an email address;

  • Link a mobile phone number;

  • Enable two-step login;

  • Enable an anti-phishing code;

  • Set a fund password;

  • Disable API write permissions;

  • Set C2C limits;

  • Set on-chain withdrawal limits;

  • The relevant device must not be jailbroken, rooted, granted system-level privileges, flashed with an unofficial operating system, or otherwise used to bypass or disable the operating system’s security protection mechanisms.

Meeting the above conditions does not guarantee compensation. Compensation eligibility and the compensation amount are subject to the platform’s final review result.

VI. Compensation Amounts and Limits

Compensation applications are subject to platform review. The amounts below are maximum compensation limits and do not mean that you will necessarily receive the corresponding amount.

1. Compensation Limit Per Incident

  • The maximum compensation limit for each incident is determined by your VIP level at the time of the incident, excluding trial VIP levels.

  • The main account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC) share the compensation limit per incident.

  • The platform may combine multiple abnormal transactions into a single incident if they arise from the same cause, attack path, or are otherwise interconnected.

VIP Level

Maximum Compensation Limit Per Incident

VIP 0-4

Up to $200,000

VIP 5-10

Up to $300,000

VIP 11-14

Up to $500,000

VIP 15-16

Up to $1,000,000

2. Lifetime Cumulative Compensation Limit

For the main account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC), the lifetime cumulative compensation limit is twice the compensation limit per incident.

3. How Are Main Accounts and Sub-Accounts Calculated?

Whether a main account or sub-account meets the activation and effective-status requirements of this Plan is determined separately:

  • The determination is based on the account from which the transfer actually occurred;

  • That account must have been in “Protection Active” status at the time of the incident;

  • The compensation limit per incident and the cumulative compensation limit are both shared by the main account and all sub-accounts under the same verified identity (KYC).

4. How Is the Compensation Amount Calculated?

1) The compensation amount is based on the direct net asset loss verified by the platform and is subject to the final review result:

  • The value of the loss is calculated based on the Gate spot price at the time each asset transfer occurred. If multiple transfers occurred, each transfer is valued separately;

  • Assets that have been recovered, frozen, returned, or can be restored are not included in the direct net asset loss;

  • The compensation amount for each incident must not exceed the compensation limit per incident;

  • Based on the actual circumstances, the platform may provide compensation in the originally lost token or another token of equivalent value. Compensation will only be credited to your Gate account, will not be paid to external addresses, bank accounts, or third parties, and will not accrue interest;

  • If you fail to take reasonable measures promptly after the incident to freeze or restrict the account, resulting in increased losses, the increased portion of the loss will not be compensated.

2) The actual compensation amount will be the lowest of the following three amounts:

  • The verified direct net asset loss;

  • The remaining available compensation limit for the incident;

  • The remaining lifetime cumulative compensation limit under the verified identity (KYC).

VII. Applying for Compensation

If you discover abnormal account activity, immediately contact Security Support for assistance with freezing your account and reducing further losses.

Application Process

Contact Customer Support: Contact Gate Customer Support within 45 days after the incident, explain the abnormal activity, and submit initial materials.

Platform Acceptance: The platform will review the application information and make a preliminary determination of whether it meets the compensation application requirements.

Investigation and Verification: The platform will verify information such as the cause of the incident, account activity, device environment, and asset flow.

Assessment and Processing: The platform will notify you of the review result for your compensation application. If approved, it will confirm the compensation amount and issue the compensation.

Processing time depends on the complexity of the incident and the completeness of the materials. Submitting an application does not guarantee compensation. The final result is subject to the platform’s review.

VIII. Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Plan have a fixed term?

No. The duration of the Plan depends on your security score: if your security score is 80 or above, the Plan has no fixed term; if it falls below 80, the Plan will be suspended or ended.

Will protection take effect immediately after my security score returns to 80?

No. After the Plan is suspended, even if your security score returns to 80, you must re-enter the 30-day Security Enhancement Period, with qualifying days restarting from day 0. You will enter “Protection Active” status only after maintaining a score of 80 or above for 30 consecutive days.

Can I apply for compensation for losses incurred during the Security Enhancement Period or suspension?

No. Only incidents that occur during “Protection Active” status and meet the applicable rules may be eligible for compensation.

If the main account is active, will sub-accounts automatically become active?

No. Eligibility to activate the Plan and Plan status are assessed independently for main accounts and sub-accounts. Each account must be activated separately because its security settings are independent.

Are compensation limits for main accounts and sub-accounts calculated separately?

No. The main account and all sub-accounts under the same KYC share the compensation limit per incident and the lifetime cumulative compensation limit.

Can I apply if I personally confirmed the transfer after being scammed?

No. Transactions and transfers authorized, confirmed, or initiated by the user, including those made after being scammed, induced, impersonated, or coerced, are not losses caused by another party’s unauthorized control of the account.

Can I still contact Customer Support after the Plan is suspended or ended?

Yes. Please contact Customer Support and submit materials as soon as possible. Whether you meet the compensation requirements remains subject to the Plan status at the time of the incident and the review result.
