According to Bloomberg, the province of British Columbia in Canada is implementing new energy regulations targeting high electricity-consuming industries such as AI data centers and crypto mining. The provincial government intends to limit the amount of electricity used for AI facilities and permanently prohibit the opening of new crypto mining projects.

The Department of Energy stated that this measure aims to ensure sustainable energy use and maintain the stability of the power grid. Instead of providing electricity to sectors with low economic impact, British Columbia will prioritize energy for sectors that create more jobs and local revenue — particularly in crypto mining and natural gas. The government believes that this strategy will balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, aligning with the province's long-term energy goals.
