
In September, the total cryptocurrency market capitalization trended higher amid volatility, ending the month at approximately $2.95 trillion, up about 9% from the start of the month. BTC and ETH both saw a late-month pickup in trading activity and prices, alongside clear ETF inflows. On-chain, Solana continued to lead in transactions and active addresses, Base improved, and cross-chain flows diverged; Ethereum still accounted for 56.2% of DeFi TVL. Key themes included UNI burns driven by Robinhood Chain activity, ZEC cross-chain liquidity, social trading, and stablecoin payments. Web3 disclosed funding totaled about $1.174 billion, while disclosed security losses reached about $442 million.
Crypto Market Performance: Total crypto market capitalization rose amid volatility in September, ending at approximately $2.95 trillion, about 9% above the start of the month. BTC and ETH picked up together in late-month trading, while spot ETF flows improved. All top eight assets by market capitalization gained; ADA led at +24.31%, followed by SOL at +19.14% and DOGE at +14.96%. BTC and ETH rose 8.04% and 10.71%, respectively, and spot BTC ETFs recorded roughly $2.70 billion in cumulative net inflows.
Major Blockchain: Solana continued to lead in transaction count and active addresses, with average daily active addresses of about 5.0 million, up 23.75% month over month. Base also grew, while BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain declined. Stablecoin supply remained concentrated on Ethereum and Tron, which together accounted for 78.5%. Ethereum retained 56.2% of DeFi TVL, with Lido and Aave leading protocols at roughly $26.47 billion and $19.06 billion in TVL.
Trending Projects and Sectors: Higher activity on Robinhood Chain accelerated UNI burns, while ZEC cross-chain liquidity helped lift NEAR Intents TVL above $300 million. Fomo integrated KOL commentary, positions, and on-chain execution into a shorter social-trading funnel. Crypto Cards sustained monthly volumes above $1.0 billion for a third consecutive month, underscoring stablecoins’ deeper penetration into high-frequency consumer payments.
Funding and Security Incidents: The Web3 industry completed 48 funding rounds in September, with 35 disclosed deals totaling about $1.174 billion. CeFi, DeFi, and infrastructure received approximately $524 million, $409 million, and $153 million, respectively. Disclosed security losses reached about $442 million, led by a $387.5 million Bitget incident involving a third-party security product vulnerability.
