Yesterday’s hardware-wallet disclosure may be only the tip of the iceberg.
A serious entropy bug was discovered in Coldcard seed generation. Seeds created on affected Mk2 and Mk3 firmware between 2021 and 2023 may have had only around 40 bits of entropy, while Mk4, Mk5 and Q-generated seeds may have had as little as 72 bits,far below the intended security level.
In simple terms, the recovery phrases were generated from a much smaller pool of possibilities than users expected. This could make some seeds possible to reproduce or brute-force instead of being practically impossible to guess.

As new crypto laws and regulations come into force, more CEXs may reduce or cease operations in certain markets.
