Meta just acquired Assured Robot Intelligence.
Their team is the story.
Co-founder Lerrel Pinto previously co-founded Fauna Robotics, left in 2025, and Amazon acquired Fauna in March for its own humanoid push.
His work sits deep in robot learning: imitation, teleoperation, tactile dexterity, mobile manipulation and deployment adaptation.
Co-founder Xiaolong Wang is a UCSD professor and was previously a researcher at Nvidia.
His work spans vision, representation learning, robot learning and whole-body control.
ARI was building toward the intelligence layer for humanoids. Now the team is joining

Everybody is talking about the machines
One week into 2026, and it’s effectively impossible to avoid the conversation around coding agents
But the hardware is just as loud; CES is buzzing with major demos, like the new Atlas from Boston Dynamics

We haven't seen the robotics chatGPT moment yet
Humanoids in particular are starting to look fantastic, but they still don’t understand our world
LLMs have decades of text to learn; physical AI begins with little data, then collides with the full complexity of the real world
There is a huge gap to be closed
Right now these machines are being taught the rules and shown specific tasks, eventually they get out into the world and 'learn on the job'
A demonstration of these niches in crypto x robotics
Some of these projects overlap categories and this is not a complete list but rather a selection o
