What Key Information Should You Check Before Using a DApp?

In the Web3 world, using a decentralized application (DApp) may require only connecting a wallet, signing a message, or confirming a transaction.

The steps may seem simple, but there is much more to consider:

Who developed the app? Can its smart contracts be trusted? Are the permissions it requests reasonable? If something goes wrong, do you understand the risks you are taking on?

Don’t assume a DApp is safe just because it works normally; and don’t assume all risks are gone just because it has an audit report.

DApps, or decentralized applications, are fundamentally different from the apps we use in our daily lives. Data in ordinary apps is stored on centralized servers, giving platforms control to ban accounts and modify data. DApps run on public blockchains, with open-source code and data stored in a distributed manner across multiple nodes, without any single institution in control. Users control access to their own data and assets, while transactions and operations are automatically executed by smart contracts, with no need for third-party intermediaries.
