The events surrounding Jensen Huang continue to escalate, while sentiment toward global risk assets was already extremely fragile. The crypto market has just gone through a brutal crash, and the two are reinforcing each other, further amplifying market uncertainty.
Let’s first run through the worst-case scenario: if the divorce is finalized, and his spouse receives half the shares, that stake would be worth about $75.7 billion at current market prices. If she sold the entire stake after receiving it, it would amount to roughly 3.5 days of NVIDIA’s trading volume, theoretically creating selling pressure of nearly 10%.
Fortunately, California’s divorce process involves a trust freeze period, so the shares won’t be dumped all at once, and the selling pressure won’t be unleashed in a single short-term wave. Even if the matter is formally finalized next year, NVIDIA’s planned $235 billion buyback, scheduled to be carried out by 2028, should theoretically have room to absorb these sales.
But capital markets have always been driven by expectations, and bad news is often priced in early. NVDA could see a 3–5 point pullback in the short term, pricing in the potential risk of a division of shares in advance. The key level to watch is last Thursday’s low: the ideal scenario is a quick recovery after retesting the low, gradually digesting the news. If the low is decisively breached, it would signal a further collapse in investors’ risk appetite.
On top of the current environment, the crypto market is now deeply tied to high-risk U.S. equities. This crypto crash is fundamentally a contraction in global risk appetite, with capital retreating from high-beta assets in tandem, while cascading leveraged liquidations are intensifying the sell-off. If this negative news about NVIDIA continues to escalate, panic will keep spreading, making it difficult for crypto markets to stage an independent rebound.
Another factor continuing to weigh on sentiment is the board’s independent investigation. Concerns about management stability and compliance will continue to unsettle the tech sector, further dragging down crypto markets. This is no longer an issue affecting just one asset; it is a chain reaction in sentiment across the entire risk-asset complex. Be especially cautious when trading, and don’t rush to buy the dip #ETH crash.
