$BTC is rising, but I think exactly the opposite. The Altcoin Season Index is only 44, stuck at the lower end of neutral, while 60% of the market is concentrated in $BTC , and the little money left over isn’t flowing down the market cap ladder. This isn’t spring; it’s late fall, just before winter. By common convention, 50 on the Altcoin Season Index is neutral, and only above 60 does it come closer to indicating that “altcoins broadly outperform BTC.” A score of 44 means most altcoins haven’t kept up, and capital hasn’t formed a chain of rotation from major assets into small- and mid-cap assets. BTC dominance is 60%, which means the bulk of the market is still being absorbed by BTC, leaving only scraps of liquidity for ETH, public blockchains, DeFi, GameFi, and small-cap themes.
Weekend trading volume is only 30% of weekday volume, and even a little volume can push prices up. That kind of volume can’t sustain a broad altcoin season. A real altcoin season should see capital spill out from $BTC , but right now it’s moving in the opposite direction. Historically, the more typical pattern is for BTC to stabilize or move sideways first, followed by ETH/BTC strengthening and BTC dominance declining. Capital then spreads to mid- and large-cap altcoins, with small caps only catching up at the end. Right now, it looks more like BTC is rallying on its own, with no support lower down the market cap ladder. Small-cap sectors like social tokens and the creator economy are the most dependent on liquidity. Right now, there’s only enough liquidity for individual projects to bounce around for a couple of days; it can’t gain traction. In a low-volume environment, a small number of buy orders can push a social token or creator-economy project up by double digits, but without fresh capital coming in to carry the momentum, it could give back those gains the next day—a classic case of hype without depth.
Based on the cycle, this looks more like a late-autumn harvest rush than spring planting. Don’t rush to rotate your holdings unless the Altcoin Season Index gets back above 60. More reliable signals would include the index staying above 60 for a sustained period, BTC dominance falling from 60%, weekend trading volume recovering to near weekday levels, and ETH/BTC no longer persistently weakening.
