Gate Guard Is Now Free: What Does This Mean for Your Account Security?

Is activating an additional layer of account protection worth a few minutes of your time, especially when it costs nothing? Gate Guard makes that question easier to answer. Gate has introduced free activation of its Gate Account Protection Plan for eligible users, giving them an additional layer of protection against certain unauthorized asset transfers.

However, there is an important detail: free activation does not mean instant protection or guaranteed compensation. Understanding how the plan works, what users need to qualify, and when protection actually becomes active is essential.

November 3: Gate Introduces an Activation Guide

Gate published an activation guide on November 3, 2026, explaining how users can activate Gate Guard through the mobile app and website.

The important development is accessibility. Eligible users can activate the protection plan without paying an activation fee. This makes account security more accessible, particularly for users who want additional protection beyond their usual login and withdrawal settings.

But users should understand that activating a feature and becoming fully protected are two different stages.

What Does Gate Guard Actually Protect?

Gate Guard is designed to address direct asset losses resulting from unauthorized transfers out of a Gate account.

For example, if another person gains unauthorized control of an account and transfers assets without the account owner's permission, the affected user may be able to submit an application for reimbursement under the plan rules.

This is an important distinction because Gate Guard is not designed to cover every type of financial loss.

Transfers that users personally initiate, authorize, or confirm are not automatically treated as unauthorized transfers, even if someone deceives them into making the transaction.

The plan also does not guarantee that every application will be approved. Each eligible case is subject to investigation and Gate's final review.

November 5: Eligibility Requirements Become Clearer

The next important development is the explanation of who can activate the plan.

Users generally need to meet these conditions:

Complete KYC Level 2 identity verification.

Maintain a security score of at least 80 out of 100.

Keep their account in normal standing.

Complete the required security checks.

Meet applicable VIP, regional eligibility, and platform risk-control requirements.

The security score measures how well an account's protection settings are configured. Users who do not meet the required score should review their Security Center and strengthen their account settings.

Free does not mean everyone automatically qualifies. Eligibility must be checked individually.

The 30-Day Rule: When Does Protection Start?

This is probably the most important part of Gate Guard.

After successful activation, the plan enters a stage called Security Hardening. During this period, protection is not yet active.

Users must maintain a security score of 80 or above for 30 consecutive days before reaching Protection Active status.

Day 1: Activation

The user activates Gate Guard after meeting the eligibility requirements. The 30-day security qualification period begins.

Days 2–29: Security Hardening

The account must maintain the required security score and security settings. The plan is not yet providing active protection.

Day 30: Protection Qualification

After completing 30 consecutive qualifying days, the account can enter Protection Active status, provided all other requirements remain satisfied.

After Activation: Ongoing Monitoring

The security score must remain at least 80. If it drops below 80, the plan becomes suspended. Users have 48 hours to restore the required score. If they succeed, the hardening period starts again. Otherwise, the plan ends.

This makes one thing clear: activating Gate Guard early is important because users cannot skip the 30-day waiting period.

What Happens If an Unauthorized Transfer Occurs?

Gate Guard provides a process for eligible users to request reimbursement for qualifying direct losses.

However, there are conditions. The account must have Protection Active status when the unauthorized transaction occurs, and the required security conditions must have been maintained.

Users must also act quickly:

Contact security support immediately after discovering the incident.

Take steps to freeze or restrict the affected account.

Submit the reimbursement application within 45 days of the incident.

Provide the required evidence, including asset transfer records and a police report.

The potential reimbursement limit depends on the applicable VIP level and plan rules. It is not automatically equal to the total amount lost. Gate reviews each application and determines whether reimbursement is appropriate and how much may be granted.

What Should Users Watch Next?

There are three important things worth monitoring as Gate Guard becomes available to eligible users.

1. Account Eligibility

Check whether your account meets the KYC, security score, VIP and regional requirements. Do not assume that free activation means automatic enrollment.

2. Protection Status

Pay attention to the difference between Security Hardening and Protection Active. Only the latter can qualify an incident for reimbursement consideration.

3. Security Habits

Use strong, unique passwords, enable available authentication methods, protect your email and phone number, and never share verification codes. Avoid suspicious links and always verify withdrawal requests.

Gate Guard should be treated as an additional security layer, not a replacement for responsible account management.

Final Thoughts: Free Protection Is Useful Only When You Understand It

Gate Guard is a meaningful addition to account security because it gives eligible users access to an additional protection mechanism without an activation fee.

Its real value, however, depends on understanding the conditions. The 30-day hardening period, minimum security score, eligibility requirements and reimbursement review process all matter.

It is also important to remember that Gate Guard is not an insurance product and does not promise compensation for every loss.

For Dragonfly Official, the key takeaway is simple: do not wait for a security incident to take account protection seriously. Review your settings, check your eligibility and understand your protection status before you need it.

The best time to strengthen your account security is before something goes wrong.
