Bitcoin at $80,000: Can the rally continue?
My assessment: BTC’s move above $80,000 is promising; however, simply reclaiming the $80,000 level does not confirm the start of a new bull trend. The truly critical question is whether Bitcoin can transform the $80,000 mark from a point of resistance into a reliable level of support.
We can consider two distinct scenarios:
* A continuation of the rally: This would involve spot buyers returning to the market, stronger inflows into ETFs, and BTC establishing a firm foothold above $80,000 before pushing toward the $82,000 level.
* A temporary "short squeeze": In this scenario, prices are driven upward as those holding short positions are forced to close them, while spot demand remains weak. Under these conditions, BTC might struggle near the resistance level and could potentially retest lower support levels.
Let’s now examine the current market structure and the key levels to watch.
1. BTC levels to monitor
As of the market data from November 5, Bitcoin is trading in the $80,400–$80,700 range. Since various technical models may yield slightly different figures, it is more accurate to view these as "zones" rather than precise reversal points. Short-term bullish trend
$80,000 and above
Approximate market price as of November 5, 2026
Primary upside target
$84,400–$84,800
Resistance
Next resistance level
$82,200–$82,600
Breakout test
Immediate resistance
$81,100–$81,450
Critical level
Immediate support
$80,000–$79,700
First line of defense
Secondary support
$78,900–$77,800
Monitoring zone
Primary downside support
$77,000–$75,000
These are technical reference zones; they should not be considered precise price targets.
My commentary:
* Above $81,400: Momentum strengthens.
* Above $82,500: Provides stronger evidence that the uptrend will continue.
* Above $84,800: Could serve as significant confirmation of a trend reversal.
* Below $79,700: The recovery process begins to lose strength.
* Below $77,000: The risk of a deeper correction increases.
2. Capital flows and price action
This is where the market becomes particularly interesting. Current ETF data presents a mixed picture:
Date US Spot BTC ETF Flows
November 2 -$398.6 million
November 3 -$115.6 million
November 4 +$74.6 million
While the turnaround on November 4 is promising, total flows for November remain in negative territory. Fidelity recorded an inflow of $236.7 million, whereas BlackRock’s IBIT fund saw an outflow of $201.2 million.
Another significant signal: during the recovery, approximately $378 million worth of short positions were liquidated within a one-hour window. This supports the thesis that the recent rally was, in fact, a "short squeeze."
My conclusion:
The price action shows a bullish trend, but it is not fully supported by capital flows.
When assessing whether a rally is sustainable, I place greater weight on demand in the spot market. While derivatives can accelerate an upward move, consistent spot buying serves as much more compelling evidence of genuine accumulation.
3. Three possible scenarios
Bullish
A breakout toward the $84,000 – $85,000 range.
BTC maintains the $80,000 level, surpasses $81,400, and subsequently clears the $82,500 mark, accompanied by an increase in spot volume and ETF inflows.
This scenario would render the recovery process more credible. Neutral
Consolidation between $79,000 and $82,000
Buyers and sellers are battling for control. The market is absorbing the volatility resulting from the closing of short positions while awaiting stronger institutional demand.
This does not mean that the recovery process has been invalidated.
Bearish
A failed recovery, trending toward the $77,000–$75,000 range
BTC loses the $79,700 level, fails to reclaim it, and faces accelerating selling pressure.
Weak ETF demand and excessive positioning in futures contracts could deepen the decline. The analysis from November 4 highlighted high open interest in futures alongside relatively weak spot buying. This is precisely the type of market structure that can make a short squeeze appear more significant than it actually is.
4. What would I do?
I would avoid chasing a sudden green candle in the $80,000–$81,000 range. My hypothetical trading framework would be as follows:
Market Development | Potential Response
Holds $80,000 | Maintain bullish outlook
Pullback to $79,000–$80,000 | Consider an entry opportunity
Breaks $82,500 with volume | View as confirmation of the uptrend
Loses $79,700 | Reduce conviction in the bullish thesis
Falls below $77,000 | Re-evaluate downside risk
Additionally, given the sharp nature of the market's recovery, I would avoid using leverage.
5. My Final Verdict
Expectation of a cautious rise
I anticipate further gains in the short term, but I am not yet convinced that a sustainable bull market reversal has begun.
The most important distinction is this:
- A short squeeze drives upward price movement.
- Genuine spot accumulation builds a stronger foundation for a sustainable rally.
For me, the strongest confirmation would be BTC holding above $80,000, breaking through $82,500, and seeing positive ETF inflows over several consecutive sessions.
I prioritize capital flows to assess the quality of the rally, and price action to determine when the market has truly confirmed it.
A question worth considering: If BTC reaches $82,500 but ETF inflows remain weak, would you trust the breakout, or would you view it as another opportunity for sellers to distribute their positions?
