#BTCBackAbove80K #WCTCS9 Bitcoin Back Above $80K at $80,730: Recovery or Another Failed Breakout?

Where BTC stands
Bitcoin is trading at $80,730.60 on Gate spot. That is the latest print in the feed, taken at about 00:50 UTC on 5 November 2026. The 24-hour change is +5.01%, and 24-hour spot volume is about 15,766 BTC. Today's range runs from $75,731 to $81,191.

The daily close above $80K

The 4 November daily candle closed at $80,506.50, after opening at $77,452.90. That is the first daily close above $80,000 since the $81,348 close on 28 October. The move from the $75,731 low to the $80,506 close was a V-shaped recovery of more than $4,700 in one session. The 5 November candle is still open, so no confirmed close exists yet for today.

The level reclaimed

Bitcoin reclaimed the $80,000 handle on 4 November. The intraday high of $81,191 on that day cleared the $81,300 area only just, and it fell short of that level. A confirmed break above $81,300 is still needed.

Key levels

Resistance sits at $81,300, which is the 4 November intraday high zone, and then $84,000 to $85,000. The 30-day moving average is about $81,174, and the 30-day EMA about $80,406, so the price is now sitting right on those averages.

Support sits at $80,000, which is the reclaimed handle and the 4 November close area. Below that, $77,000 is the next level, followed by $76,800 and the $76,289 lower Bollinger band.

Momentum

RSI is about 50.7, a neutral reading that has moved up from 38 earlier this week. MACD is still negative, at about -165 against a signal of -916. The histogram is improving, but the MACD line has not yet crossed up. The 7-day moving average is about $77,991, and the 120-day is about $74,790. The 20-day and 50-day averages were not in the feed, so I am not quoting them.

ETF flows

This is the main concern. US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $115.6 million in net outflows on 3 November, extending a three-session losing streak to about $1.16 billion in total. The feed shows a further net outflow of about $487 million over a recent period, though that figure is dated and I could not confirm its window. Institutional demand has not returned yet, and the rebound so far looks driven more by short covering than by new ETF money.

Derivatives

Open interest is about $53.2 billion, up about 1.1% over 24 hours. The funding rate is +0.0052, a modest positive reading, so longs are still paying shorts but without much crowding. The taker buy/sell ratio is about 0.98, so sellers were slightly more aggressive in the latest window. Traders bought about $420 million in bullish options during the overnight recovery, according to BeInCrypto. The 24-hour liquidation field reads zero, which I do not treat as reliable. Overnight, the recovery was driven partly by liquidations of short positions, so some of the bounce reflects forced buying.

Midterm results and macro

Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress, and reports say the outcome complicates passage of crypto market-structure legislation. Bitcoin initially fell to about $75,600 on the result, then recovered as the uncertainty cleared. Easing oil prices and Treasury yields helped risk assets, and US equities rallied after the vote. CoinShares expects slower progress on US crypto legislation under a Democratic Congress, though Bitcoin may be less exposed to that risk than exchanges and token issuers.

Compared with ETH and the Nasdaq

Ethereum led gains among major coins on 4 November, rising more than 6% to a two-week high above $2,400, according to The Motley Fool. Bitcoin rose about 3% that day. The broader equity rally after the election also lifted crypto. I did not verify the Nasdaq's exact move for the session, so I am not quoting a percentage.

My outlook

The bullish case is that the reclaim came with a sharp rally, RSI has room to rise from neutral, and the midterm uncertainty has lifted. A daily close above $81,300, followed by a hold above $84,000, would open the way to the $87,000 area that some analysts cite.

The bearish case is that ETF outflows continue, the MACD has not yet turned, and the rebound was partly short covering. If buyers cannot hold $80,000 on a daily close, the $77,000 to $76,800 zone is the next test.

My view is that the recovery is real, but unconfirmed. Bitcoin needs a daily close above $81,300 and a stop in ETF outflows before I would call this a sustained recovery. Until then, I would treat $80,000 as a line in the sand, not a settled floor.

What to watch

Watch whether the 5 November close holds above $80,000, whether ETF flows turn positive, and whether the MACD crosses above its signal line. Watch also whether Ethereum keeps outperforming, since that can signal broader risk appetite.
