#稳定币总市值半年缩水170亿美元 If stablecoins continue to contract, they are likely to weigh on crypto market liquidity. The impact is more likely to hit altcoins first, while Bitcoin should prove relatively resilient.

Stablecoins are essentially the market’s “cash.” As their supply shrinks, there is less buying firepower, and exchanges become less able to absorb selling pressure. The sharp drop in BTC market depth and widening bid-ask spreads during the 2022 UST collapse are a typical example.

Why altcoins face greater pressure
Bitcoin has safe-haven characteristics: when money is scarce, funds often exit smaller tokens first, while BTC tends to hold up better.
Altcoin trading is thinner: even a small sell order can trigger a larger drop, especially when liquidity deteriorates.
Rallies can easily lose momentum: without a sustained influx of new stablecoins, gains depend more on capital rotating within the market, making price action prone to reversals.
But a $17 billion contraction does not mean $17 billion in buying demand has disappeared. Stablecoins are also used for payments, settlements, and collateral, and some funds have simply left exchanges while remaining on-chain or in DeFi.

Recently, USDT and USDC have remained close to their $1 pegs, and liquidity in leading products has held steady, suggesting structural redistribution rather than a systemic confidence crisis.

The three things that really need watching are:
Whether stablecoin balances on exchanges continue to decline;
Whether net stablecoin inflows turn negative;
Whether spot BTC ETFs see outflows at the same time.
Currently, the circulating supply of USD-pegged stablecoins is about $298.2 billion, down $4.587 billion in a week, with USDT accounting for about two-thirds of the decline; Bitcoin holdings have recovered first, but stablecoin supply and ETF allocations remain subdued.

The takeaway: continued stablecoin contraction is more dangerous for altcoins; for Bitcoin, it is an obstacle to further gains, but does not mean an immediate sharp drop. If exchange balances decline, ETFs see outflows, and leverage rises at the same time, the market is more likely to enter a high-volatility, low-liquidity phase.#WCTCS9
