After being stopped out and then seeing a major reversal, smart traders do this: Don’t chase, don’t gamble, don’t retaliate!
The market reverses right after I stop out; the price takes off right after I exit. It feels like buying an umbrella just as the sun comes out!
But don’t rush to blame yourself, and definitely don’t jump back in and chase the price.
I prefer to see a reversal after a stop-loss as a new test, not a mistake that must be made up for.
First, watch to see whether the market has truly changed direction, rather than just bouncing briefly. Next, wait for a new entry signal and confirm the price structure and evaluate how much room there is for risk. Finally, recalculate your position size and stop-loss to ensure that even if the trade fails, it won’t do serious damage.
If the signal isn’t clear, wait patiently. Missing part of a move just means missing out on one opportunity to profit; impulsive trading, however, could shrink both your previous gains and your principal.
What traders should fear most isn’t missing a move, but turning themselves into fuel for the market just to avoid missing one.
The market doesn’t owe us a profitable trade, and we don’t owe the market a revenge trade. #WCTCS9
A true winner isn’t someone who can catch every reversal, but someone who can stay rational whether getting in or getting out. It’s okay to take it slow; what matters is staying in the game for the long haul!$NVDA
