Why choose TSMC
· It holds the most central position in the industry: advanced processes and CoWoS advanced packaging are both key to mass-producing AI chips.
· Its growth outlook is relatively clear: The company is maintaining full-year capital expenditure of $60 billion–$64 billion and expects USD revenue to grow about 44% year over year in 2026.
· Its earnings quality is more stable: Compared with theme-driven stocks, TSMC is better positioned to turn AI demand into actual revenue and profits.
MediaTek offers greater upside, especially from custom chip projects such as Google’s TPU. UBS expects its TPU-related sales to rise from $2.113 billion in 2026 to $18 billion in 2027. However, the pace of delivery depends on the share of customers’ in-house chip development, new suppliers, and yields, and its share price is also likely to be more volatile.
Other supply chain stocks
To diversify away from the risk of holding only TSMC, consider two types of stocks:
· Delta Electronics: Demand for AI server power supplies is more direct, and power electronics now account for 54% of its business.
· Unimicron: ABF substrate supply and demand are tight, with greater potential for price and gross margin swings.
However, the entire AI hardware chain is currently undergoing a valuation reassessment. On Nov 3, TSMC fell 1.5% and MediaTek fell 7.43%, as the market reassesses how quickly AI capital expenditure will pay off.
Overall, I’d favor TSMC as the core holding, with MediaTek as a higher-upside satellite position. If choosing just one, pick TSMC; if your capital allows, use TSMC as the core holding and pair it with a supply chain stock for a more comfortable level of concentration.$TSM
