The latest on-chain data from Glassnode reveals a fascinating shift in Bitcoin investor behavior. The chart, titled "Profit Taking Is Slowing Down," suggests that market exhaustion might be setting in, potentially signaling a short-term bottom.
Here is a breakdown of what the data is telling us:
📉 Profit-Taking Has Cooled Off
Looking at the bottom chart, we can see that during the rallies in August and September, investors were aggressively taking profits (large green bars). However, over the last few weeks, these profit-taking volumes have significantly shrunk.
🩸 Sellers are Realizing Losses
Despite Bitcoin trading in the high $70k range, the last 7 days have been characterized by continuous net realized losses (red bars and red dots). According to Glassnode, this recent stretch of net realized losses is the longest we’ve seen since mid-August, as sellers continuously dump BTC at a loss below $80,000.
🎯 The Historical Precedent
Look at the black arrows on the chart. In mid-August, mid-September, and mid-October, concentrated selling at a loss perfectly coincided with short-term price lows. In every instance, the "panic selling" marked the bottom before a relief rally.
The Takeaway:
The current market structure is mirroring previous capitulation events. If Bitcoin can successfully defend and hold the $75,000 support level, this latest round of loss-taking will likely be confirmed as another short-term bottom. The "weak hands" are selling; the question is whether the bulls step in to absorb the supply.

If U.S. stocks focus on corporate earnings and gold on risk sentiment, then Bitcoin is focused on whether policy can give it a clearer future.
The crypto industry is also on edge ahead of these U.S. midterm elections. The changeover in Congress will affect the progress of future legislation on digital asset market structure, stablecoin regulation, and crypto tax policy. Of particular note, the CLARITY market structure bill was previously blocked in the Senate, and the new Congress may need to push the relevant legislation forward again.
If lawmakers supportive of the crypto industry continue to hold key positions, the market could see a clearer regulatory framework, benefiting trading platforms, stablecoins, and institutional participation. But if control of Congress changes, the regulatory direction could be reconsidered, and legislative progress could be delayed.
