When Musk said this, my first reaction wasn’t to applaud. It reminded me of when I was sitting on a big unrealized profit from a heavily weighted position: my account was all in the green, and once I got carried away, I’d start playing it safe, thinking, “I’ve already won.” Then I wouldn’t add to my position when I should have, and later I’d watch the market keep climbing for a long stretch. It’s the same old fear-and-greed cycle, back and forth: when you’re in the red, you’re afraid things will keep falling; when you’re in the green, you’re afraid of giving it all back. In the end, you’re often not beaten by the market, but trapped by your own psychological anchors.

Starlink has nothing to do with crypto, but the trading psychology is exactly the same: the more you have in your hand, the more afraid you are of losing it. It’s like someone who was up 30% in the 2021 crypto rally and rushed to trim their position, reasoning, “Better to take profits now.” Then the market went up another 50%, and they didn’t dare chase it, so all they could do was keep telling themselves, “A smaller gain is still a gain.” The Fear and Greed Index works the same way: in extreme greed, everyone thinks prices can keep rising; in extreme fear, everyone thinks the sky is falling. The cycle just goes on and on. Musk says he could paralyze the entire power grid in seconds. It sounds like a threat, but also like he’s trying to psych himself up. Starlink has thousands of satellites in orbit, covers more than 100 countries and regions, and has millions of users. He has plenty of cards to play, but the more cards you have, the easier it is to fear losing them. That psychological layer is hard to hide.

Maybe I’m wrong. I’m waiting to be proven wrong. What do you think—is this a real deterrent or just talk?

Starlink has plenty of cards to play, but the power grid is infrastructure; no one can afford the cost of actually taking action, so it’s probably just bluster

The power grid and satellites are two different things; actually crippling the grid requires physical contact, which Starlink can't do, right

I was cautious when sitting on unrealized gains and stubbornly held on to losing positions; it took me three cycles to finally understand.

Too many people made 50% less in the 2021 wave; “take profits and play it safe” did a lot of harm

The hardest part of taking a large position isn’t the analysis—it’s overcoming your own wishful thinking

That insight that the more you hold, the more afraid you are of losing it is spot-on—you nailed the psychology of big holders

In the end, trading is a battle with yourself; the market is just a mirror

When greed is extreme, I’m actually most nervous because I know what’s coming
