AAPL Q4 FY2026 earnings: my forecast and positioning plan
Apple reports after the bell tonight, and this is the first earnings call under new CEO John Ternus, who took over on September 1. Consensus sits at roughly $113.4B in revenue (+10.7% YoY) and $1.99 in EPS (+7.6% YoY) . The stock is up over 27% year-to-date and trading near record highs, so the bar for a positive reaction is higher than a simple beat. Options traders are pricing an implied move of roughly 4.25% in either direction.
iPhone: Consensus looks for iPhone revenue near $56.5B, up about 15% year-over-year. But this quarter only includes roughly nine days of iPhone 18 Pro sales, and the foldable iPhone Duo — which launched on October 23 — is not included in this quarter's revenue at all. The key question is whether the early iPhone 18 Pro demand and the Duo reception can sustain momentum into the December quarter.
Services: Consensus expects Services revenue around $31.6B, up nearly 10% year-over-year, though this would be the slowest growth rate in over three years. Services carries much higher gross margins than hardware, so its trajectory directly affects the earnings quality assessment.
Apple Intelligence: I do not treat this as a separate revenue driver this quarter. Apple Intelligence and the new Siri AI are integrated into the iPhone 18 Pro and Duo ecosystem, designed to support upgrade demand and retention — not to generate a discrete, reportable AI revenue line. Anyone buying AAPL purely for an “AI premium” tonight is likely to be disappointed by the lack of separate disclosure.
Guidance: This is the single most important variable. The December quarter will include the full run of iPhone 18 Pro sales, the iPhone Duo launch, and the holiday shopping season. But there is a structural complication: the base model iPhone 18 has been delayed to spring 2027, meaning the holiday lineup consists only of premium models, which limits unit volume. Wall Street is already modeling December-quarter earnings growth of only 2.1% and revenue growth of 5.9%. If Apple's December guide comes in above that muted bar, the stock can move higher. If it merely matches or falls short, the “good news priced in” pullback risk becomes real.
Margins — the underappreciated risk: Memory costs are the central margin issue. DRAM and NAND prices have risen sharply on AI data-center demand, and BofA estimates that memory costs could reduce iPhone gross margins by 900 basis points before pricing and cost actions narrow the impact to 500 basis points, with an overall company gross-margin effect of roughly 250 basis points. Apple guided September-quarter gross margin at 47% to 48%, including about one percentage point of one-time tariff refunds, implying a core margin closer to 46% to 47%. The December guide needs to hold margins without that tariff-refund cushion.
My forecast: I expect Apple to modestly beat on revenue and EPS, with iPhone and Services landing at or slightly above consensus. But I do not expect a clean rally unless the December guidance is decisively above the muted 5.9% revenue growth bar and management gives credible reassurance on memory-driven margin pressure. My base case is a modest initial move higher followed by a fade, because the beat is well anticipated and the margin headwind is structural rather than one-off.
Position view: I am not adding ahead of the print. I remain constructive on AAPL over a multi-quarter horizon because the Services base and installed-device ecosystem are durable. But I would use any post-earnings pullback as an opportunity to build rather than chase a gap higher. If the December guide disappoints or margin commentary signals deeper memory pressure into the March 2027 quarter, I would reassess before treating the dip as a buy. The risk-reward favors patience, not pre-earnings aggression. #苹果财报即将公布
