Will Trump’s tariff policy undergo a sea change? The biggest risk to U.S. stocks may not be the election result!
With the U.S. midterm elections entering the countdown, tariff policy is once again in the spotlight. For Wall Street, tariffs are like an invisible shopping receipt—the bill may ultimately be paid by businesses or consumers.
If Democrats gain partial control of Congress, trade committees may step up their investigations and oversight of tariff policy, with more questions about tariff costs, exemption mechanisms, and impacts on businesses. But don’t rush to celebrate the end of tariffs across the board! The president still has considerable executive authority over trade, and it won’t be easy for Congress to overturn the policy.
For U.S. stocks, retailers, manufacturers, and consumer companies with high import costs may come under pressure, while companies with global supply chains will face greater uncertainty. Gold may gain safe-haven support as trade tensions escalate, while the dollar will also have to contend with the effects of interest rates and economic expectations.
I’m more focused on whether tariff policy turns from political rhetoric into real costs. What markets fear most isn’t arguing, but costs suddenly rising and profits quietly shrinking. Investors may want to be patient: quality companies ultimately have to let their earnings speak, rather than rely on political news to stay in the spotlight. #每周来晒 and #美国中期选举进入最后冲刺
