Writing
We thought staking meant putting assets in and quietly earning some returns, but this time b14g served the market an unexpected plot twist.
About 97 million CORE were withdrawn without authorization, and the project team urgently paused the affected contracts. Investors were expecting their returns to arrive, but instead got a security announcement first.
It’s like handing someone your money to keep safe, only to find out the safe’s key has a problem when all you wanted was to earn a little interest.
Jokes aside, though, risks are no laughing matter.
About 68 million CORE remain on the Core chain, exchange partners have frozen about 9 million related CORE, and the project team is tracking the funds. BTC staking assets have not been affected by this incident so far.
It’s worth noting that Core DAO has stated clearly that the Core mainnet’s consensus mechanism, validators, and official staking contracts are operating normally. Issues with a third-party protocol should not be equated with the entire network being compromised.
The biggest lesson for investors from this incident is: don’t just look at the yield—also research how assets are custodied.
Yield is the cake; security is the plate. If the plate breaks, even the prettiest cake won’t stay upright.
Hopefully, this incident will prompt the entire industry to give security greater priority, allowing investors to participate with peace of mind instead of anxiously checking announcements every day.$AMZN
