AI Token Spending Is Rising Even as Prices Fall

According to a16z, AI token spending has increased by approximately 122% to 160% since May, even though average AI token prices have dropped around 67%.

This highlights an interesting shift in the AI industry.

Cheaper tokens are making AI tools more accessible, encouraging businesses and developers to use them more frequently. AI agents, coding assistants and automated workflows are contributing to growing demand.

The important point is that lower prices don't necessarily mean lower spending. When usage expands rapidly, total spending can continue to rise.

AI adoption is growing, and the real story may be how quickly people are integrating AI into their daily work.

In the short term, price wars are brutal. In the long term, this is a necessary step toward growing the pie, and infra-layer players who make it through will be winners

Volume is up and prices are down, a classic sign of demand elasticity greater than 1, and AI adoption is faster than expected

Cheap tokens are letting small and midsize teams experiment with agents too. This wave of democratization is moving much faster than crypto

#IntelBeatsEarningsButStockPlunges LOL, the market only cares about the AI narrative now; even strong earnings from traditional chipmakers don't matter

This data is interesting: the price dropped by two-thirds, while total spending doubled, showing that businesses are actually using it rather than just hyping the concept
