HYPE at $88.25: Is Hyperliquid Building the Financial Infrastructure of the Future, or Is the Market Already Pricing in Its Ambition?
Hyperliquid (HYPE) is attracting significant attention as it demonstrates resilience during a challenging cryptocurrency market. With Bitcoin and several major digital assets facing selling pressure, HYPE is showing relative strength, trading at $88.25, compared with its 24-hour low of $86.31 and high of $90.11.
This price action raises an important question: Is HYPE simply experiencing a temporary recovery, or is the market beginning to recognize Hyperliquid's long-term ambition to become a major financial infrastructure platform?
In my view, the second possibility makes this project particularly interesting.
1. Strong Market Position Despite Industry Weakness
Hyperliquid has demonstrated impressive resilience in the on-chain perpetual trading sector. According to the figures presented in recent market research, overall on-chain perpetual trading volume declined 2.5% in Q3 2026, while Hyperliquid recorded 9.2% growth.
Its reported 38.6% share of trading volume and 58% share of open interest highlight its competitive position.
Open interest deserves particular attention because it reflects capital committed to active positions. Trading volume can fluctuate rapidly, but maintaining substantial open interest requires liquidity, margin and trader confidence.
For me, this combination is more meaningful than volume alone.
2. Bear-Market Resilience Is a Competitive Advantage
Between November 2025 and September 2026, the broader on-chain perpetual market experienced a significant contraction. Aster reportedly declined 74%, while Lighter fell 81%. Hyperliquid, however, recorded a much smaller decline of approximately 2.4%.
This difference suggests stronger user retention, liquidity depth and product competitiveness.
A platform that maintains activity when market conditions deteriorate may be better positioned when trading activity eventually recovers.
3. HYPE Buybacks Create an Important Economic Connection
Hyperliquid's Assistance Fund is another major part of its investment narrative.
According to the provided Q3 figures, the platform generated approximately $165 million in perpetual trading fees, with around $147 million directed toward the Assistance Fund for HYPE purchases.
That represents approximately 89% of those fees.
This creates an interesting relationship between platform activity and token demand. Higher trading activity can generate more fees, potentially supporting additional buybacks.
However, buybacks do not guarantee price appreciation. Token supply, market sentiment and future revenue remain important considerations.
4. From Crypto Exchange to Global Financial Infrastructure
Perhaps Hyperliquid's biggest opportunity is its expanding ecosystem.
Its infrastructure is attracting developers exploring markets beyond traditional cryptocurrency perpetual contracts. Tradexyz reportedly represented approximately 50% of Hyperliquid's perpetual volume at one point in July, before declining to 23.9% in September.
Meanwhile, HIP-4 event contracts recorded approximately $231.4 million in cumulative Q3 trading volume.
Although this remains small compared with established platforms such as Kalshi and Polymarket, HIP-4 could eventually support a broader range of financial products, including options and prediction markets.
Payward's September 16 announcement regarding plans to bring HIP-3 markets to US customers also highlights the potential for traditional financial institutions to participate in this ecosystem.
This is why comparing Hyperliquid with AWS is an interesting long-term perspective: its ambition may extend beyond operating an exchange toward providing infrastructure on which other financial products can operate.
5. HYPE Price Analysis: $88.25 Is an Important Area
At the current price of $88.25, HYPE is trading above its 24-hour low of $86.31 but remains below its 24-hour high of $90.11.
My short-term levels are:
- Immediate support: $86.31
- Important resistance: $90.11
- Bullish confirmation: A sustained breakout above $90.11.
- Next upside area: $92–$95, if buying momentum strengthens.
- Bearish warning: A confirmed breakdown below $86.31 could expose lower support zones.
These are observation levels rather than guaranteed targets. I would prefer to see a confirmed breakout, followed by a successful retest, instead of chasing a sudden price increase.
6. Valuation and Long-Term Risks
Hyperliquid's potential is impressive, but valuation cannot be ignored. The September 30 FDV estimate of approximately $91 billion already reflects substantial expectations. Comparisons with Aster, Lighter and edgeX also demonstrate how dramatically valuation changes depending on the revenue multiple applied.
Competition, regulatory uncertainty, liquidity conditions, token economics and the actual adoption of traditional financial assets remain important risks.
My Final View
At $88.25, HYPE deserves attention because its story is bigger than a short-term price movement. Its competitive trading infrastructure, strong open interest, buyback mechanism and expanding developer ecosystem provide several reasons to watch its development.
However, becoming the AWS of global finance is an ambitious objective, not an established achievement.
I believe the most important question is not whether HYPE can reach another price milestone, but whether Hyperliquid can become infrastructure that other financial businesses genuinely depend on.
If it succeeds, today's exchange-focused valuation framework may eventually look incomplete. Until then, disciplined analysis and risk management remain essential.
What is your view? Can HYPE become the financial infrastructure of the next decade, or is the market already pricing in too much future growth?
Not financial advice. Always do your own research.
