Everyone in the group is calling for a rally, so I’m taking the contrarian view—the Japanese CPI comes out at 1 a.m. If the numbers come in high, the central bank will have to raise rates. Higher borrowing costs will hit Japanese stocks first, then ripple through the global funding chain. A V-shaped reversal is one of the most common bull traps, so don’t rush to chase it. What are you seeing on your end? I’m watching CPI.

I’ve mapped out this global capital transmission chain: Japanese stocks → carry trade unwind → U.S. stock volatility. The chain is a bit long, but definitely worth watching out for.

1 a.m. is definitely key, but the BOJ has strong dovish momentum. Even if CPI comes in above expectations, whether it will actually dare to raise rates is another question.

V-shaped reversal bull trap +1; this rebound lacks volume, and chasing in could leave you stranded halfway up.

Going against the trend can be right, but doing it too early can easily turn you into a martyr. What price level are you protecting your position at?

You watch CPI, and I’ll watch Treasury yields. When the two data releases coincide, volatility will increase.

Contrarian thinking is indeed rare. When consensus in the group is too strong, that’s when you should be cautious. I’m also waiting for CPI and keeping my positions very light ahead of the data.
