#MicrosoftAzureGrows48%
You might have seen the headlines about cloud spending and AI costs this week. Microsoft just reported its fiscal first quarter results for the period ending September 30, 2026. Azure revenue grew 48 percent to 33.17 billion dollars. Total revenue rose 19 percent to 92.28 billion dollars.
This growth happened because demand for artificial intelligence computing remains strong. Microsoft spent 45.2 billion dollars on capital expenditures and finance leases during the quarter. That spending is up about 30 percent from a year earlier. Even with these heavy costs, the company generated 18.63 billion dollars in free cash flow. That is about 10 billion dollars more than analysts expected, even though it is 27 percent lower than the same quarter last year.
For you, this matters because it shows a different path from other technology giants. Alphabet reported negative free cash flow of 9.07 billion dollars in the same period. Meta also reported negative free cash flow. Microsoft is spending heavily on AI infrastructure, but it is still producing positive cash after those investments.
Markets are watching the guidance for the next quarter. Microsoft expects Azure growth between 49 and 50 percent. The company also forecast total revenue between 96 billion and 97.1 billion dollars. Analysts note that if cloud demand stays strong and spending remains controlled, this model may support sentiment. If costs rise faster than revenue, pressure may return.
What matters more to you here, the Azure growth rate or the positive free cash flow. I am holding my positions and watching the market.
